USSL - United Summer Soccer Leage is only for players from U5 - U12 only .
USSL has around 350 teams .
USSL teams would increase to 600 + if sanctioned by BC Soccer.
USSL is open to all players [no restrictions on any players].
USSL is played in brilliant weather , April to July .
USSL fields become available from April 1 to Aug = no cancelled games /training sessions due to the weather.
USSL starts full field 11 a-side at U12 - this helps players adapt/learn for when they start playing full field at U13 in the winter season.
USSL finishes July 31 so those players going into U13 in Sept are better prepared for full field 11-a side.
BCSPL starts at U13 so none of those players are involved in USSL.
A sanctioned USSL Leage would only be from U5 to U12
The months of play would bring it in line with the rest of Canada.

Everyone is welcome & whoever is thinking of starting another summer Leage should at least talk with the USSL members about any options

what makes you think USSL would increase to 600 clubs? This province doesn't have 600 clubs.

Its the attraction of the great weather during the USSL season . Hopefully whoever is trying to make a new summer leage should just combine with USSL
Heard from Delta club that CCB trying to venture and do interclub / district spring league.

Anyone from Surrey who knows more.

inter district spring leagues is a great idea in areas where there are enough players to make it work. mini-leagues as it were. Chilliwack-Abby-Maple Ridge, Surrey-Langley, Tri-Cities, Burnaby, Vancouver etc. Each region can do it's own model as suited - 7-a-side, 11-a-side, no standings, standings. And if it's competitive or fun is steered by who actually registers, price points, and coaching standards/training models. So what's done in one mini-league would not be required to be done in another. But if one thrives, others would likely replicate that model.

There are enough soccer players in areas like Surrey , Coquitlam , Burnaby ,Delta and North Van ! These areas have soccer as the no 1 sport

We travelled to play in USSL and loved the program. Enjoyed tournaments for festivals and food.

I find this league is tiered for all ages from U7 and Up which makes the play competive and fun for lower (rec) players.

BC Soccer should make compromise with this group and bring under the sanctioned umbrella.

I,ve coached /been involved in the USSL since it started and each year has seen an increase in numbers and many of the bigger winter clubs are not participating and prob would if it was sanctioned by BC Soccer . Clubs in Dist 5 currently not participating CMF , NCU , PCE , West Coast , Langley , SU , Coastal , Delta ,Ladner etc . I,m sure these clubs would participate and get involved in a BC Soccer sanctioned USSL leage

BC Soccer will not compromise I don't think, look how long they have denied TSS anything.

In reality, soccer will not truly move forward until there is a push for reform at BC Soccer similar to the push that saw reform begin at the CSA a few years ago.

Politics are a cancer not only at the club level, but all the way up and through to the top.

Didnt ccb declare they were going to start a bc soccer sanction league when all the trouble about payments to the pacific eagles and suspension started?

they definitely said they were starting a spring league and not supporting a USSL club through CCB this coming spring. All the executives who were on both executives had to pick one or the other. Not sure what it takes to be sanctioned... but i believed it simply means the league operates under the rules and guidelines of BC Soccer.

No idea really who is behind this or how legit it is but I received an email this morning about a youth Greater Vancouver Spring League starting this April.

I don't remember signing up for any newsletters but that's another matter

In any event, maybe some of you here can shed some light:

BC Soccer doesn,t need to compromise - they should set out their requirements for a sanctioned summer Leage and maybe even change the name of the leage if that,s whats required to move forward. USSL has proved that spring/summer soccer is a huge success due to the weather and now BC Soccer should either sanction the USSL or create a new spring/summer leage .

I get these kinds of emails all the time. I think they pull my info off of bcsoccer to be honest.

I consider it spam.

Interesting - this could possibly be for Vancouver /Burnaby area clubs ? Is it sanctioned by BC Soccer ?

No idea, to be honest I don't really see this as a serious league at first glance and would be very surprised to see anything come of it... I *think* they may have tried getting teams signed up for last year too.

I got that email this morning as well

Looks to be an outdoor Futsol like league

Benefits:

The game format of the GVSL would provide and promote the following benefits:

  1. Players:
    1. Stronger cardio through player substitutions on the fly, over a 12 week season
    2. Improve foot skills through more touches on the ball. There will be fewer players on a smaller pitch
    3. Additional playing time to develop all soccer skills
    4. Opportunity to develop leadership qualities
    5. Learn to play as a team
    6. Participate in a fun league and enjoy the game of soccer
    7. Agility of players will increase
  2. Coaches
    1. Participate in a fun Futsol/Soccer-based league
    2. Fields, referees, opponents, and schedules are provided
    3. Team awards
    4. Player develop
    5. Admin and paperwork is done by the league staff (player cards, etc…)

Ya, I assume apply for status and show you are in compliance - probably one of the major significant issues is all the clubs have to be NFP compliant and registered BCSA members. This is why the previous spring league the CCB, TSS, and Burnaby Soccer didn't get off the ground.
