From what I've heard, the schedule that was posted is not completely correct and will most likely completely change. We've been told for the first 2-3 weeks it will be a week by week notification and that's it. As far as travel goes, it could be worse, way worse. When I coached hockey we'd have games on the sunshine coast all the way to chilliwack on a regular basis. It all depended on where you were tiered but there was times where we would have a game in sechelt one week, and chilliwack the next. Living in North Delta at the time, it was a lot of driving but it is what it is.
Really looking forward to the different teams and competition levels this year. Will be nice to play some different teams, not the same Cliff Ave and South Burnaby teams that we saw so many times last season.

LOL! Been there already. Richmond to Chilliwack for 9:00 a.m. start. Drove out Fri evening, and over-nighted. The hotel hot tub was worth it - not to mention getting to avoid a 6:45 a.m. departure.

Ugh! The BCCSL needs to add a rule similar to this, excerpted from BCCGSL Operating Guide:
---cut-here---
3.4 Travel

Home teams MUST take into account the travel distance of the Away team, especially for teams travelling to or from Chilliwack, Whistler, Squamish, Pemberton and Sechelt.

Such games should be scheduled to start no earlier than 10:00 am and end no later than 7:00 pm unless agreed to by both teams.

There is, or at least was in district 5 in previous years, a 10am rule. Problem is clubs need to schedule games and don't always follow it. It's allowed as long as you agree.

The "middle ground" ideal occurred to me for Whistler/Squamish-Chilliwack matches too.

Does BCSPL reserve a lower mainland field or several fields for an entire day or something? I believe the clubs take multiple teams (age groups) and pool transportation (bus) & when travelling? At least I think that's what MUFC did on weekend day trips up to the Okanagan and Island...

Absolutely - every away game for Chilliwack is minimum 45 minutes except the off-chance they get to play Abby or Aldergrove (rare it seems these days lol).

Maybe - just maybe - BCCSL can institute a "middle ground" policy similar to BCSPL that has Victoria and Okanagan meet in the middle for their games. If drive is over 1.5 hours play the game in the middle? I dunno.....we have to start thinking more logically, and realistically - not less as it seems we are. (one umbrella for the leagues makes sense - not ridiculous driving for lower level sports).

The 10 am (or later depending on distance and ferries etc) rule has been in effect in D4 for some time. All our home games on the Coast take into account the ferry schedules and never require the earliest sailing. We have never had a problem with other clubs honouring requests for later starts when needed. However, last year one of the girls teams was placed in div 2 and the teams there were unaccustomed to the travel and many refused. As far as i know the league was not very active in dealing with that unfortunately even refusing to move them up when thumping the other teams was part of the problem. Many years ago when our first few teams were playing off Coast, the league threatened to fine teams the equivalent of the cost of their travel if they refused to make the trip. Most understand that it is once or possibly twice for them and make a day of it (no choice!) and enjoy the trip, while we do it every other week.

a creative solution - and one I support for a weekend away once in a while!!

Sechelt got back to me today 2:00 pm game. Other than the cost of going over my team is excited about this road trip.
I must admit, Squamish to the Whack doesn't seem to appealing!
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Forum folk, so how did your opening day of BCCSL 2017 go?

Any scheduling, venue or travel issue? Or did the majority of games get played as expected?

And how was reporting scores with GotSoccer? I did a cursory scan (last nite) and only saw a few scores posted...

GS had our opponent listed correctly, but time and venue were wrong. Parents realized that our venue HAD to be wrong, but somehow a few of them were convinced we were playing at 8:00 instead of the 11:00 they'd already been informed of by our club admin. Lots of unnecessary emails, phone calls, etc.

Despite the week 1 schedule being the proverbial dumpster fire, I have to admit that I'm surprised that GS managed to churn anything out already. Let's see if improvement comes in following week(s).

My kids play in the Girls league so I have no experience (yet, maybe next year) on this...

That being said, there is a GotSoccer App for mobile devices, and I assume you can do it through GotSoccer web site too(?).

From the BCCSL Operating Guide:
---cut-here---
Win or losethe home team will enter the score on Gotsoccer by Sunday night latest of each scheduled game weekend.

Within 48 hours of the game, it is the responsibility of the away team to make sure that the reported score is correct.

If neither team reports a score, it may be recorded as a double forfeit
---cut-here---

How do you report scores are they reported directly to GotSoccer or through the league?

score reporting is simple via the app or webpage on the phone. Problem is no info has been sent as to the league number or password. Seems like some have figured this out, but I cant find it anywhere. (I have found the game numbers only)

Busy weekend. Especially with photos.

Sat 8:30 u6 uniform exchange at Coastal. 9:45 warm-up then game for u17 in Ladner. 4:30 pm photos for u6 back at Coastal.

Sun 9am warm up and game for my u9 daughter at Costal. 11am photos.

I live in Newton.

This is the first season In the last 7 where I'm in parent mode. No coaching.

On one hand I'm enjoying my self, and my children, quite a bit. On the other it is quite different and feels like a part of me is missing. I am blessed that they all have great coaches and are having fun.

My u17 son scored yesterday, contributing in a very solid team performance.

EAsoccer - since you are just a fan I imagine this will be your favourite season! :) lol I told my TD this weekend I'd have no issue with my kid not liking soccer - so I can just sit and enjoy ;)

I see Bronze teams who were competitive against lower Silver in the past grouped with house teams who were at the bottom of their division. It's going to be a tough season for some.

In response to my previous comment, looking at the 1st weekend in u17 bronze 1 east, it was indeed very lopsided for some. Hopefully they will add bronze 2 after thanksgiving break for fairness sake.

I just saw this on the North Van website. It explains how most clubsprobably feel about the new merger in a short time frame.

With so many objections, how was this pushed through so easily? Or was it just a matter of the squeaky wheels getting the grease? Either way, yes I agree, the missing of a week in our environment where weather will certainly take more is not the best outcome.

And I hear talk of SPL2 next year. Maybe thats a reason it was pushed so quickly this year.

Would SPL2 be the current BCSPL teams that are in MSL moving over?
