Because the majority of teams were in div 4 last year. And thats where the majority registered this year. Div 3 did not have enough teams so they either moved to div 2 or dropped to div4.

yes, but surely you see what I am asking?

CCB held tryouts for mostly all age groups free of charge [no fees to tryout ] .For our 99 born age group there were 3 tryouts followed by a friendly game. Only 18 players turned up but not a single player turned up from the other CCB Div 1 team or the Div 4 team.
After this 2 were younger and are playing U17 and another 2 from Delta preferred to play Div 2 with Delta.
14 players were selected and played Surrey summer soccer as a team from May to mid Aug . I gave the kids 2 weeks break and we would start training from Sep 1 .
On this day only 6-7 players turned up and after the session a parent informed me that a man called Rakesh Kumar was forming a new Div 1 team with BC Tigers , with a promise of challenging Metro teams and had pulled 4-5 players and also affected 2 others [including the goalie] from our team.
I spoke to one of the main Tigers guys but he wasn,t much help.
It seemed like i would need to pull the team out of the leage but with help from the CCB club i managed to get 10 players together and 2 x U15 players for our first game in Sep 10.
Hope those of you outside Newton/Surrey will understand a bit better now the problems we have to face.

How exactly would a u18 div 1 team "challenge" metro teams - enter the A Coastal Cup?

None of those 7 parents that left have apologized or explained their decision to me since Sep but one of my parents said the players were told they had other players lined up & would challenge Metro teams in the A Coastal Cup. It was a ploy to impress and pull them over.
In the end this individuals sneaky pulling tactics didn,t work and he wasn,t even able to form a team at U18 !
Only 2 of those 7 players are playing now - 2 for the bottom placed U18 Metro team , 3 moved to U21 & 2 quit soccer.

Can someone explain to me why it's called Div 4 and not Div 3?

But there,s teams playing in Div 4 that are Div 2 level [ teams in yellow ] .

If your description of events is accurate, then you are better off without the players that left.

TKBC , 100% correct and i,m def better off without kids like that .I,m content and happy with my team [ Low Div 1 or top half Div 2 level ] friendly kids & great supportive parents who just want to enjoy their last season .
We have a GA record of 42 but 27 of those were in 3 games - 2 games vs CMF Apollo and 1 game vs Ravens.
Against the other 5 teams we have a record of GF 8 & GA of 15 goals !

I think there always needs to be perspective.
1. U16 Div2 WCA team has a large goal differential because they have played bottom dweller teams and feasted. The only beat Langley 3-1 and Chilliwack 2-1 . Like always how do these teams to against the top teams vs the bottom teams. Also what does re-tiering for 6 weeks accomplish? Every gets reset in January for cup play. Then again if you are a bottom team getting smoked every weekend the perspective might be a little different...
Addition: For U11 and U12 it makes since to re-tier now and perhaps again in January as there is no cup play or standings, balanced schedule is important.

I wanted to bump this conversation about the WCA team. I know it doesnt really matter anymore, but I was saying all along they should be a Div 1 team.

If you look where they are now they are having the very same success against the div 1 teams in their group.

Agree with you on this one. The moved down 2 years ago from div 1 due to "losing several players" only to dominate the division. 2 of the top 4 teams (mine included) decided to move up, they stayed. Another year top of table no loses, ridiculous goal differential. Makes no sense they didnt move up. How does it help the players to stay in a division they clearly are too strong for.

also how does it help the other teams in the division?

at some point teams have to be forced to move up a tier from div 4 to 3, 3 to 2, and 2 to 1. Not sure what you do though if a team dominates div 1 year after year.

Hopefully the coach or club would move some deserving players up to metro or bcspl, if metro for the team isnt possible.

Another question to ask is for the Langley teams. They had 3 or 4 teams in U16 Div 1 this year that (results wise) were better than any teams that Abby or Chilliwack could offer. AFAIK few or none of these players supported the 2 win FV Metro team. Now the Langley has officially joined forces with Fraser Valley at this level are they going to attend tryouts? The word I heard last week was that there were no Langley players attending yet or if there were there were very few.

I believe this is exactly the point of Langley united joining with Fraser valley starting at the u13 level. (creating an east and west team). How many parents do you know that are willing to drive 2 hours a day 3 days a week for practices out in chilliwack? I coach one of the u16 teams and transportation is a huge barrier.

Yes I understand the logistical issues that we have but the training sessions were always open to have 2 of the 3 sessions per week in the community with the most players selected. Chilliwack families to the best of my knowledge have never had an issue attending Abby for sessions twice a week.

One of the issues is communication to let the Langley families know this. I am guessing this was never passed on to them though.

Did you know this?

can only do that if there is space on the MSL team. Can't just move kids up. They have to take spots from incumbents.

I saw, in Chilliwack this week, what appeared to be an entire team of LUYSA players trying out for a MSL team.

Having an East and West FVS team is a fantastic moves for the district. It should encourage more of the "deserving" players to tryout for that level as travel concerns should be reduced significantly.

Depends on the coach most likely.

Obviously they would need to attend evals, what I meant was more that they should be encouraged to do so.
