That was not brought up, and I don't think they can dictate how a club's membership works - boys and/or girls.

There was discussion on SurDel leaving South District and joining either SMSA or DYSA, which would then allow those two districts to stay separate, but that idea was voted down.

But they are dictating how the boy/girl districts work. Either way, I think its good, but South Delta maybe should have been with Richmond? IT's all highway so not a big deal I guess.

Should be lots of new memberships coming with all the new neighborhoods being built by the new mall.

Does anyone know what district or governing body Metro Select teams and BCSPL teams fall under. There are teams of joint ventures that are not mentioned under any specific district:
Fusion FC
Mountain United
Fraser Valley Selects
Surrey Guildford United
Delta Coastal Selects
To name a few...

FVS is partnered with FVP (Langley FC - I don't know the governance structure though) and are in the Fraser Valley district. Surrey Guildford surely is SMSA as Delta Coastal is the DYSA. You are right, Mtn and FFC combine districts (feeder clubs) so where they are based/registered, I dunno but my guess would be it's wherever their home fields are based.

Richmond has just 1 club, essentially, in it's district so this maybe opens the door for having them merge with someone else.

Will they also try to eliminate gender specific clubs? SurDel / North Delta merger?

Can't do that, unless BCSA changes it's by-laws I suppose. Societies/NFP's can run in whatever fashion they want as per the Society Act. If they offer girls-only then so be it, is my assumption. The issue is they are competing against bigger clubs, I guess.

I am not sure, if its good or not. Yes it is status quo for the girls, i think the South District was a necessity at one time due the amount of girls or lack thereof that played, may not the case anymore..
I do understand it from an administrative perspective. With the boys the new South Fraser is very large, roughly 20-25% of all the lower mainland. South Fraser could form its own league for that matter....

As they should. They will have suitable competition at every level up to MSL (4 teams in MSL from this new combined district) and with a smaller geographic league may attract more of the MSL-level players if they created their own MSL league and added another 2-3 teams. Why should they have to go play teams in Chilliwack, Maple Ridge, Coquitlam etc - especially those in div 2 and down. If I was in that new district I would be asking to create our own league structure. Right now there is d4 and d5, so they'd essentially become "d6", with everyone else remaining in d5 that they left behind to create "d6". I would not begrudge them, and I'd be from a club that they left behind.

To be fair, as a Div 2/3 coach I find it nice to play in Tri-Cities, Langley, Aldergrove, Abby.

Maybe not as far out as Mission or Chilliwack though...lol

It would be nice to be able to play New West/Richmond/Vancouver once in a while as well outside of Tournaments.

I would like it if we played each team in our group 1 time during the season (not including cup) and then played other District to fill the rest of the schedule. But maybe thats a thought for another day.

LOL that's probably because you live more centrally in the district? (I don't know where you live). But for those of us on the outskirts....not ideal! Smaller geographic districts.

I propose 8-team leagues. Play each other once. Make it a very geographic-logical grouping (ie, Surrey teams only play Surrey teams or only now Surrey-Delta teams), then you go to another 8 team league but expand it and essentially re-tier. That's a 14 game league season, then wrap-up with a cup and district cup. Done. This is referring to div 1 and down of course, not MSL. Though MSL seems to have 2 groups for most ages (all?) in boys so why not group A is "east" and group B" is "west" and then you re-tier at some logical point to mix them up? After playing everyone in your group once?

I live in Newton. I have made friends with coaches from other areas. I find that traveling alleviates a lot of the pressure of playing teams that are local. Kids go to school together and can be very competitive so if they can play away against teams they only see once a year that helps.

I also enter into several of the tournaments away from here.

I hear ya. I am saying play a more local league, then expand to greater distances after the first league series (7 games).

I too live in Newton and share @easoccer thoughts. Its nice to play other teams especially when up to U12 you have played many of the local teams over and over again, gets to be a bit stale..
That said I don't want to be travelling around every weekend, perhaps more local leagues with intra league play every 4-6 weeks. Cup play would expand as it went along...

We have never played a Coastal or North Delta team and we are u15. We played South Delta 1 time. Have played Surrey United 1 time in the last 3 years.

Sometimes they just dont have teams at a similar level so what do you do then?

While the drive from Ladner / Tsawwassen to Maple Ridge or Chilliwack can be a pain (Kurt, I know I'm preaching to the choir here...hahaha) I still enjoy seeing different teams. I'd hate to play CCB, North Delta, Coastal and Guilford over and over. Nothing against those teams, I just like the variety!

What I don't like is the 15-20 team divisions where you don't play everyone. Smaller divisions, play everyone once, to make it balanced.

adjust to keep the leagues as geographically related as possible.

This is what I am saying though. Smaller leagues. Play your first league/round of games in an 8 team geographic league. Then do another 8 team league expanding it to play teams from the other leagues who finished in the same position you did (ie, teams 1-2 from league A join the teams 1-2 from league B C and D?? Just throwing it out there). Gives you different opponents. Then you maybe combine the records and tier your league cup once again (just like they do now). So through the two leagues of 8 teams, then the league cup of 6 teams you get a wide variety of opponents, and at least in the beginning of the season you minimize travel and assess your team against it's local "rivals".

I agree. Big divisions where you don't play everyone makes zero sense.

For example my last year in u17 had 16 teams. 12 league games (I think 2 weekends cancelled due to weather?). Why not two divisions of 8 teams. Play everyone in division once (7 games), then re-tier for another 2 divisions of 8 teams. Then go into your league cup based on the combined records, and district cup as per usual. If you really want to mix it up create leagues of 5 teams, play each team once, then re-tier two more times. Combined records of the three mini-seasons to tier the teams for league cup.

It will be very hard to create balanced geographical divisions at certain levels and ages. Some clubs just dont have the teams.

I agree with this, also agree with @easoccer's post that some clubs don't have the teams. Also, just to look at it from the another point of view...do you know anyone who wants to do the re-tiering and scheduling? I sure as ^&#(*$$^# don't... LOL!
