@hervb My team was .500 in Div 3 and I think your team was in a similar position in Div 2 last year. We both moved up to play stronger teams with minimal changes.

I'm not saying everyone should follow that approach. I do believe though, that this team is in the exact position they want to be in.

Anyway, Im more concerned with what happened to Eburnes team. From the top of Div 3 to the bottom of Div 4 over a year and a bit. It was always fun playing them. And Peck went from the bottom to top of div 3.

Anyway, in Div 2 now, time to make new friends. Lol.

Hey gentlemen, hope all is well. Figured I would add some context to the discussion as our Langley team also played div 2 the last 2 seasons in this age group and we decided to move up to div 1 this year for a greater challenge. The other langley team you mentioned has done very well the last two season but lost a few very strong players and had several few players join. I know they played a tourney at the div 1 level but had some struggles which may have supported their decision to remain at division 2. Sometimes it can be hard to judge what the appropriate level of play when your not sure what other teams will look like. Considering we moved up to div 1 I believe our club was hesitant to register 3 groups at the same level as well. I know this is a similar story for westcoast with quite a few players pulled up from Division 3. Hope the season is going well for you Rich and Elton.

I,m a big believer in players/teams playing at their appropriate level/ability . Who sits on the retiering meeting and makes the necessary changes and are club requests to have a team moved up/down accepted by the retiering group and whats the deadline to submit the requests ?

Re-tiering if definitely a area that I think could be improved on (at least from our dealings in 4 District) within youth soccer in the area. One of the problems with our team this season is the early nature and infrequency of the re-tiering (at least within 4District).

For example we had re-tiering after week 4 which included a bye week from a cancelled fixture against a team that folded. Although we had scored 10 goals in two of our three games and won very comfortably (even while giving all our weaker players a disproportionate amount of playing time) the strength of schedule resulted in us staying where we were. Although I still think the small sample size merited us being moved up there are limitations placed on the scheduling committee making a decision which is best for all of the kid. I personally don't care about the standings and would be open to them re-tiering 2/3 times a season to ensure that there are not wasted weekends where teams who were initially mismatched, or are now mismatched due to different development rates have to play each other knowing that they are probably going to meet another 2/3 times over the next few months.

Our suspicions that we probably should have been moved up were confirmed this last weekend where we won 6-0 against one of the highest ranked teams in our league - unfortunately due to the early re-tiering schedule this more meaningful result is not available for District to consider.

Bang on. I am fairly certain they made the request but re tiering date is later than usual we shall see how it plays out but trust me they were not anticipating score lines like they have had.

Unfortunately not. There is one re-tiering meeting, which per the 4District guide occurs the Monday prior to Thanksgiving (so with a maximum sample size of 4 league games for each team and can be more when bye weeks/weather cancellations). Following that there are no re-tiering dates advertised and their guide is quite specific that changes are not made after that meeting.

Clubs can provide feedback in previous years too. Again my team was 0-0-5 and a huge negative GD in D1 a few years ago. I simply emailed the TD and explained why it was inappropriate to move us down at thanksgiving. He agreed and we remained. We ended the year very strongly as the circumstances leading to a 0-0-5 start were mitigated. On paper we had no business in D1 at that point, but on the field we knew different.

They do look strong, but just looking at a glance I'd rather see the top 6-8 in that group separated to their own group from the rest first. See how they do.

There is no real harm in dominating for a year. They can enter tournaments to face a tougher challenge. And should have adequate reason to re-apply next year to MSL. However, SMSA may well say "go join an existing MSL club" and that also may well be an appropriate answer.

Definitely a reasonable approach. That might well be the best form of tiering I've heard of. They do this of course in the cup season after Christmas, dividing the leagues into 6 which achieves this.
