wonder what people think of BC Soccer now publishing the names of those coaches and exec that have been suspended for lengthy periods.

BC Soccer

down near the bottom of the link shows names and length of suspensions. I believe this is new for BC Soccer. It likely opens up more questions than provides answers. For example what was the suspension for and what club are they with. It concerns me as a parent that someone has been suspended for 10 months in my club and I am not provided info as to why? was there inappropriate contact with kids or embezzlement of money or worse??? Clearly these suspensions carry weight considering there are how many thousands of soccer families and only 5 to 7 suspensions of this nature.

Now this is progress! I would love to see the club that each is associated with listed though.

Dave Kasper - Langley United

Robert Sciascia - Richmond... isn't this the guy that was accused of choking his players and there was a court trial of some sort? I remember reading about it and thinking there was something fishy about the accusations...

The 10 month suspension John mcgrandle. He was president of North Delta soccer club. Rumour has it his leadership has cost that club it's gaming grant and about 1/4 million in legal fees and other lost revenues.

Yup, Sciascia is that fella. I don't remember if it went to court or not. If my memory serves, his defence was that he put his hands around the neck - without squeezing - of a 12/13 old old, as he was talking to his team about choking off space.

Poor, poor decision on his part, whatever the intent.

Roberto Sciascia suspended from Richmond only....seems odd.

I like the idea of naming coaches and other volunteers who are suspended. All clubs should have to check this list when a new coach tries joining them.

Good move by BC Soccer but i feel the punishments should be even tougher

But if it doesn't list what they did, how do you know the punishments should be stronger?
I do think that listing suspensions publicly should discourage the bad behavior.

I agree the offence should be listed. Almost like "criminal code" where BCSA can say the suspension is "as per rule XX of the policy" or however it should be worded. So it's not specific, but you get a good idea what it's for.

BC Soccer and the SMSA should look into the BC Tigers and their attempted takeover of PUFC .

I am not pro persecution of any individual that makes a mistake. As a matter of fact I am on the fence all together about publishing the info. However I suspect that these suspensions are not ad hoc or without merit. i have to trust that BC Soccer has done its due diligence on these cases with interviews and likely a battery of legal advice. So does these publications answer questions or open up more? I am not sure. i do know that there are many people at both North delta and Richmond that are more about speculation and gossip as it pertains to these suspensions. i know there has been traditional press on these as well (newspaper and TV) yet we all know how the press likes to treat these issues.
someone earlier in this post suggested publishing the rules or guidelines that were in violation. i like that. For eg. John Doe, 1 year suspension, Tim buck 2 soccer club, violation rule #18 - in violation of acting in a manner unbecoming of BC Soccer - financial mismanagement. Or whatever the the rule that applies. So we know for certain that a person suspended did something wrong but it wasnt for fondling kids. i like that solution.

Currently i look at these suspensions and unless I know the stories I do not know.

Will be interesting to see if anyone is suspended after BC Soccer makes a decision on who is right and wrong. You would think the wrong party would be disciplined or will saying sorry we did not know any better be enough to get off the hook.

Like last summer ??

I think the question is why wouldn't they, especially since its the same group of people who caused all the crap with CCB last summer... people have been suspended for less...

What is the specific violation that they are being accused of? The club members need to deal with the situation. Unless there is a specific violation of BC soccer rules then they shouldn't be involved.
