First round scores have been coming in slowly and have been posted now.

Some large scorelines in a couple!

Hopefully the remaining scores will come in this week.

Huge differences in scores will happen when you have a barely silver team playing a top gold team. It seems like they are seeding top vs bottom rather than random draws this year.

In a cup competition I suppose seeding top vs bottom makes the most sense though, no?

Sure does. However last year we had some lower teams making it through via favourable draws. That can be good as well I guess.

Quite few games still not played ????
For the first round?

No, all games have been completed that were supposed to be played by now.

Next round of games are to be played by February 7th.

In my years of coaching I've always observed the SD Cup to be rank-based, not random. And fair enough. Maybe the odd year, or in some age groups they go random but I don't recall ever seeing it randomized.

I've also seen they do prelim rounds - which is very logical as well.

Finally some scores up - but as always some clubs could careless if their scores are reported or not.

It reflects clubs leadership and technical stewardship.

Intersting Results

SFC has 6 teams in the Finals
CCB has 2 teams in the Finals
SUFC has 2 teams in the Finals
PUFC has 1 team in the Finals

Newton Based Clubs represent 9 teams in the finals.
Imagine if these groups could work together....

"Work together" -- can you clarify this? The city of Surrey can manage many clubs - it's large and should have many club options for players.

It's my understanding the issues aren't really that clubs don't work together. It's that clubs themselves are not running their programs .... well.

If not running clubs well can produce these results I will try and convince my club to follow their blueprint.
They are obviously doing something right for these results. Correct No??

Whats considered running well then? If it's results, then those speak for themselves. There are only so many EASPL teams around (None in Newton, but why? What is the Reason? 1 per distrcit?), and only so many Metro teams, and "Newton" teams always seem to do well there. From D1-Metro. Certainly if there was an EASPL team based out of Newton they do well also.

The problem as I see it is that ALL soccer should matter, not just the higher divisions. Each club should focus on developing and maintaining their talent pool and not keep looking over the fence at what is on the other clubs roster. Sure if a player tries out for a spot then fine, but we all know this isnt what happens in Newton.

Too many kids are passed over for even rec teams. Is this what Soccer should be about?

The players are the minnows and the coaches are sharks.

Results are not everything and absolutely shouldn't be the barometer for "success" or "well run"
