Who are the UBC Thunderbirds in boys u17/18 division? Meaning, what league do they play in? Is it some UBC Academy I've never heard of?

Mens UBC University team , they had a very exciting and close game vs the Whitecaps U18 boys team. Score was 2 -2 [ not 100 % sure ] . There was a lot of talent in both teams

I watched coquitlam metro vs surf u17/18. Some good players. A few stood out. I wasnt overly impressed with the 1v1 play but the team play was good.

I was dissapointed with the coaching staff from both teams and their constant disrespect of the ref. They were complaining at every stoppage.

So the UBC team only played Whitecaps? That'd be fair.

Standard of play was very high and the Whitecaps Residency teams def seem to have developed the players really well . There were some very exciting games.

Definitely. Whitecaps academy is probably top 3 in North America, definitely top 5. IMO Dallas is 1, Galaxy is 2 (but Galaxy have a couple new very very good coaches so they should be #1 very quickly)

Be a bit surprised if CMF allows it's coaches to carry on like that for long. But very little a club can do if a coach acts poorly in a one-off.

As for that behaviour from Surf? You are surprised? You haven't been to many tournaments in Washington I guess....

But, if coaches are complaining as you describe it (I picture yelling, or challenging ref decisions) then I want to know why the ref didn't stamp that out early and sternly.

I was out for a walk. I stood between the benches and the coaches were both challenging the ref at every stoppage. From what I could tell coquitlam likes a physical game and the ref wasnt having it. It was even getting to the point the players were chirping as well.

The ref was a bit older and seemed to just ignore them.

The linesman was camped at the coquitlam bench and seemed to be chatting about the calls as well. No support for his official.

Anyway I only mention it because it was quite distracting and not very respectful. Especially for a showcase tournament.

Seems odd a BCSPL coach would be allowed to act in such a way (if your report is true) at such a high profile event. If this was in fact the case BCSA/CMF had better speak with that coach and give him a "booking" ;)

Although, who am I to talk - I've had bad days and run ins with refs too!

I have no reason for it to be untrue.

Sorry not saying you are lying - I am saying everyone has their own perspective on events. It's human nature.

Fraser Valley made a smart move to move to Langley on the doorstep of Surrey . They are now bolstering their rosters by picking up players from the Surrey area who either left Coastal or SU or were dropped . Its just a short 10-20 min drive depending or where u live and parents & players who just want the prestige of playing BCSPL are happy :p

FVP made the smart move for them if their goal was to become a Surrey suburb team. If they want to serve the Fraser Valley, truly, they'd move back to Abbotsford and truly work with the feeder clubs to develop players suitable for the BCSPL.

Thats what they basically are a Surrey suburb team feeding off scraps from SU , Coastal or enticing players from Newton Metro & Gold teams :p

BCSPL franchise at NAP ?

Great facilities
Nearly 5000 players
Deep talent pool of players
Team standings/performances in MSL, Div 1 & Surrey District Cup prove that the talent is there.
Maybe the Newton clubs could work together if there was an incentive of a BCSPL spot.
Plz post your views/opinions

Now that we have 5-6 winter clubs in Newton , maybe BCSPL will hand out a Franchise as the combined Newton clubs would field competitive teams at every age level ! :)
Need to be positive and maybe the dream of a NAP based BCSPL club might come true

With 6 clubs combining i would choose the following name - NEWTON FC :D
