What Role should BCSA be playing?

This thread is to discuss what role BCSA should be playing? Motivation for this thread came from an article on the TSS website called Rethinking BC Soccer. I highly suggest reading this article to help with discussion on this thread.

Main question is does BCSA play a governing role, and if so to what extent should that role be? Currently they control . BCSPL , Provincial teams. Provincial Cups, seasons times and dates, leagues, player transfers etc.. should this be left to the various clubs and districts.

They definitely play a role in coaching development and in player development programming and guidance, how should this look?

And lastly what is their role between CSA, professional clubs and community clubs?

I think BCSA should be calling the shots on all of this, directing development for the competitive stream. Rec soccer can be managed more locally, following BCSA mandates. BCSA would then simply be governing competitive player development in concert with the CSA's directives. I don't really see why this is even a discussion. Our country is a mess because we've been leaving it up to each club, to do what they want, and each district to develop their own rules etc with the only exception being everyone playing the same season except BCSPL and the same transfer rules/registration rules.

This is a point of discussion because of some as you "Our country is a mess because we've been leaving it up to each club, to do what they want, and each district to develop their own rules etc with the only exception being everyone playing the same season except BCSPL and the same transfer rules/registration rules." TSS for one wants operate without the bounds of BC Soccer, they believe BC Soccer is suffocating them. Essentially they want to operate in freedom , without boundaries , ability to p[lay in any league they choose and to use whatever development method they think is best.

So the question is should BC Soccer have its hands in these matters or should they be playing a more guidance, role.
The events around CCB last summer for me prove why we cant leave things like boundaries, leagues, player transfer up to the clubs to manage and govern, with out BC Soccer governing could you imagine what would happen in District 1?

For me BCSA plays a governing role, a developmental role, a educational role. and a promotional role.
I would like to see some changes for sure, more onus on coaching development for one.

BC Soccer has a big role to play and should be playing an ever bigger role - i would say they should have more control but in exchange they need to change with the times and implement changes to a very rigid system.
The problems in Newton , Surrey with the SMSA banning innocent young kids is a perfect example of why they can,t let certain Districts/clubs run things themselves. There would be chaos - innocent kids being banned from registering or playing , discipline being manipulated ,refs not forwarding discipline reports etc . In cases like that BC Soccer should step in and take over the running of the District .

TSS supports the LTPD. Just ask Mr. Elmes. "without boundaries" - BCSPL has no boundaries. "ability to play in any league they choose." Any club in the BCSA membership can play in any league they choose (except BCSPL) - MSL is pretty full now so you can't just walk into that div.

I said that BCSA needs to manage. I am not sure you read my post very closely.

I agree - I don't see why individual districts seem to have such control and authority over the development model. BCSA (and by extension CSA) should be able to mandate a development model and ban those that don't follow it. LTPD is, by all accounts, a step in the right direction. So implement, and enforce it.

I believe BCSA's intent is to let clubs and districts figure things out on their own. They seem to wade in only when pressed. These are recent updates to their Discipline Policy, coming out of so much poor behavior and decision-making made in local clubs in 2015. The biggest change to me, is that they've made it possible for players/parents, etc, to bypass the clubs and districts and send serious occurrences straight to BCSA (eliminating the bias of local club boards).Of course, these policies have to be enforced to be effective.

BC Soccer
As for Metro, I do believe that league has been watered down and should be abolished, those teams should become Div. 1 so there can be movement during the season. The standings speak for themselves. Teams that have won one game all season just shouldn't be there. There's no benefit to either side on game day.

Agreed, it needs to come top down. CSA needs to decide what a Canadian National Team player looks like, system of play etc and the development model needs to come from them to provincial , to district to clubs. We should be teaching the same systems of play and developing the same skills at the very least among the rep teams and it should be the same across the country.
LTPD is a great first step it provides a process in that is says at this age you should do this ,and more importantly it provides a player pathway that was much missing. It lacks however details, it leaves the development of tactical and technical up to clubs. same with the coaching courses, you attend you pass, your not left with any technical knowledge, or development direction, good coaches will take from it but most go through the process and continue on with the prior ways. It one thing to say we need theis level of coaching its another to actually be providing content and direction in those courses. Nowhere does it show what is expected technically from each age group or create a standard, nor does it show how Canada wants to play. What does it mean to play Canadian soccer? We could be developing kids for possession soccer, but the national team wants to play counter attack, or a more defensive style or whatever .
