It's raining. It's snowing. It's too hot. Too cold. We travel to much. We don't travel enough. The ref was shite. The ref never showed up. We do enjoy a good moan, don't we? :D;) Part of the deal, I guess!

So - this thread is only for the positive - what happened on the weekend, or at training, that made you smile or laugh? For cryin' out loud, these are kids...they're made up of shenanigans...amazing plays...successes!

For my U17's, our shortest player went in net last game...I couldn't resist the begging...stopped most everything that came his way..allowed 2, one on a PK that he got his hands on.

One shot soared way over him (shocking!) and rattled off the crossbar. Play is going upfield and he waves to get my attention, makes the "calm down" motion with his hands, and yells "Coach, I had it covered all the way!" Another grey hair I didn't need...:p

How 'bout y'all?

Listening to two parents behind me talking about their sons team (game on the pitch before mine)....."that's offside!" they mutter to each other, "they need to learn proper forward runs...", "where's he going? oh man now we don't have any subs", "they need to wake up." the lol's as I see the game completely different as a neutral observer :)

"The Things Parents Say" could be it's own thread!

My favorite, from a U14 (I think) game: "How come the coach keeps asking Johnny to shoot with his left foot? He KNOWS he can't shoot with his left foot..."

Unfortunately too many parents live vicariously through their children. That or they become experts suddenly when their children start to play soccer, even with no prior knowledge of the sport. o_O

Remembering soccer is fun? So to increase the players ownership of their training, and hopefully fun, we've started "captains week" in which the captain for the following game (it changes every week - my team is quite young) leads the team through 15 minutes of training, of the captains choosing and design, based on that captains individual goals for the year. Last night was practice 1 when we used this - the kids had a great laugh, and were competing with each other. It was, I think, a useful 15 minutes (plus they did shooting so they were in their own mini-Heaven lol).
