A summer snapshot of 2020, in the time of CoronaVirus (aka COVID-19). Here is a short summary of U13-U18 youth soccer in the Vancouver Lower Mainland (my view from email conversations/reading/web surfing -- others please feel free to fill in any holes or errors).
BC Soccer Premier League (aka BCSPL) added 3 new franchises as expected with Langley United SC, Vancouver United FC & TSS Academy adding intake teams to the league. The 4th new franchise previous announced--North Van FC (NVFC) plans to enter intake teams in 2021. This COVID-19 year with a travel ban, only BCSPL's lower mainland teams appear on the schedule (3 weekends to Thanksgiving break only) so the Vancouver Island & Thompson-Okanagan teams are "out of the mix".
Apparently Vancouver Whitecaps will be added to schedules after the break. Not sure if these will be "intake" teams in BCSPL or something else?
BC Coastal Soccer League (aka BCCSL, Metro, Div 1, 2 & 3) released schedules on Sept. 8th. We see all age levels have groups of 4 team cohorts (or maybe a group of 3 if odd # of teams). Cohort teams are grouped geographically (adjacent districts for Metro) to minimize travel. Cohorts may be rearranged after the break. All games will be exhibition games with no standings or playoffs. Not sure if this is true for BCSPL. The BCCSL schedule will likely see more changes before kick off weekend with adds & removes (removals prevalent, maybe COVID concerns?).
BCCSL has dropped Stack Software. BCSPL used Stack before BCCSL adopted it (remember predecessor, the legacy-awful GetSoccer, then Stack with it's birthing pains when BCCSL took it on?). Notably BCSPL has dropped Stack too (Matt Holbrook is GM for both leagues) and both leagues are using Gordon Quan's (BCCSL Scheduler) QScriptor (or parts of). Gordon developed/used it for the BC Coastal Girls Soccer League, before BCCGSL joined the BCCSL (old 4District & 5District boys leagues) with the Metro Select League (MSL). Also looking back it was George Riddell's TAGS software used by 4D/5D/MSL previous.
Websites - BCSPL & BCCSL are hosted on SquareSpace this season. BCSPL to move onto BC Soccer's website next year.
Other - Richmond Girls Soccer Association (RGSA) rebranded in June as Richmond United Soccer Club (RUSC) and their registration site includes U5-U7 coed, U8-U18 boys & girls, and U18+ mens & ladies. However on the BCCSL schedule, only RUSC girls teams (U11 thru U18 divisional, U13/15/17 Metro) appear. The other Richmond youth soccer club, Richmond FC (RFC) has a slate of boys teams (U11 thru U18 divisional, U13/14/16/17 Metro) and at time of writing - ONE U11 Divisional Girls team on the schedule. At time of writing, the Richmond Soccer Association district website has not been updated to reflect the RUSC rebrand so RGSA and RFC banners are displayed.
