Looks like many districts are closing up shop already. Maple Ridge - all grass and turf closed. Surrey and Delta, all grass closed. If it rains as hard as the pessimists say, some turf will have standing water, and games may not go.
All clubs should make the decision to close fields ASAP due to safety concerns with the expected storms this weekend. Apart from the safety of players on the field it will also not be safe on the roads either for families travelling to and from games.
I guess wind becomes a safety issue as well. Ah well...just put weights in the pockets of the smaller kids...and dress them in something bright so they're easier to find when they float away
The 5 Dist Leage Board definitely needs to assess & tier the boys U18 groups .
U18 U18 Div 1 - 7 Teams
U18 U18 Div 2 - 14 Teams
U18 U18 Div 4 - 16 Teams
There are at least 4 -5 teams in Div 2 that should be playing in Div 1 and as they have not taken that responsibility , the 5 Dist should step in and move them up .
I believe there are strong teams in Div 4 as well who should not be there and will run up the scores in some games
I,m all for teams playing at their appropriate level / appropriate ability whether they are playing to be competitive or for fun .
I would request Dist 5 to make changes and balance out the groups and have made some changes from my previous suggestion as follows:
Div 1 - 10 teams
Div 2 - 8 teams
Div 3 - 8 teams
Div 4 - 11 teams [ fun div ] - would not mind a bye as they are playing for fun
WOW , Canada,s Mens Soccer future is looking good judging by the amount of goals scored by some teams already & unbeaten starts to the season in Dist 5.
U14 Div 2
U14 Div 2E
U15 Div 4
U16 Div 2
U18 Div 2
U18 Div 4
Some teams in the above Divisions have scored 25 - 30 + goals already
Please stop posting this kinda stuff here - email your district and/or BCSA. No one here can help you.
What exactly is wrong with the post?
It seems to be geared towards discussion, please don't try and discourage posting.
Thanks.
Yes, we cant really help and it does get repetitive, but I agree with LFC a bit. When teams are off to those kinds of starts movement should come sooner.
We all know how tkbc feels about tiering.
I agree with tiering. When a team dominates they should move up unless they are in D1. Then a bigger decision needs to be made about how to get dominant D1 teams/players into MSL.
The answer as to how to get dominant D1 teams into MSL is simple in my mind. Eliminate MSL.
By that I mean eliminate it as separate entity/league. All of the top leagues need to be governed under the same umbrella. It is counter-productive to have one group running BCSPL, another running MSL, a third running 5D and a fourth running 4D.
There is, actually, nothing stopping MSL from approaching D4 and 5 and asking that Div 1/Gold be brought under their umbrella to create an MSL 2. Just need the will.
That is a great idea ,have Metro and Div 1 under the same league, start the year as Metro and Div1 - then re-tier for cup play into 4 divisions. I think re-tiering in Oct or November is pointless , when in January it all changes again for cup play, there are enough teams to play a different team each week in most divisions. Sept - Dec mini season - over winter break re-tier based off mini season records for cup play.
