Changing Club

My son has been registered at the club (Division 1.) on last Dec 2016 but now he wants to play at other club ... maybe at the higher level like Metro. However, I was told that he cannot change the club since he's been registered already and have to wait until Dec 2017 until released. Is this true?

Bryan, did you *just* register your son with a (your profile shows Surrey) club in December 2016, or is that a typo or misread by me? If so, has he even played a game with his team?

December registration would seem rather late as most Coastal youth leagues (below HPL & Metro) just finished their regular season mid month (Dec - last couple of league games cancelled due to snow) and playoffs will be starting (also delayed a week by snow - 1st games should start this coming weekend for most, depending on field availability & scheduling.

So if your club submitted a registration (picture ID) to BCSA and a card was issued, then your son is bound to the current club for the time being. Transfers for specific reasons (other than "buyer's remorse") are described in the BCSA Rules & Regs document.

Also you mentioned "maybe at a higher level like Metro"? You probably know that tryouts are held in the spring, and players selected and invited to join competitive divisional & Metro teams. Lower tiered divisions don't require tryouts. Also it's possible for Divisional players to be play up (i.e. Div 1 player invited to Metro) through the season involving a permitting process.

I base this on experience with my 2 daughters (now U13 & U15 playing in the BCCGSL) & what I've been able to gleen on this & other forums, so hopefully this is a relevant followup to your post/query.

No. He is released from his gold club once their season ends - after their final cup game (typically this is a district cup game or the league championship cup. Unless the team makes the Coastal Cup. Then he is released when the ref blows the whistle for their final coastal cup game - if they make the final then he isn't released until after the provincial cup in the summer).

If memory serves the transfer deadline is January 15 - so I don't think he can transfer to a MSL team or BCSPL team at this point anyway. He could play for an MSL or BCSPL team on permit (if that is still the rule). You may want to check the permit deadline. Of course his coach, club, and district registrar have to sign the permit on a game-by-game basis.

So regarding this transfer deadline of Jan 15, if a player has not registered for any team this season, can he still sign up for a team? Also, can a player still change teams within the same club?

I think kids who haven't registered/played for any other team this season can still register....but check the specific league rules.

I checked the rules and you are right about the fact that a new player can join a team if he hasn't played for any other club this season. However, what if a player is already registered with the club but wants to move to another team within that same club?

A player must have played 1 game with the team prior to cup to be able to play. If he hasnt there is no point in registering at this time.

yes I recall that now as well - this is the rule for league cup and coastal cup. so the registration/transfer deadline, in truth, is basically December 1st for Gold and lower - metro would still be January I guess because they have league games remaining.
