Problem is the weather. I never had much luck in getting make up games done in dec. Those usually get cancelled as well. Lol

I think it's division by division, whether or not they don't count any games played. I can't see them discounting one group who played all their games, because some other division did not....

Surely the rule applies to each Division when 75% or more games are not played ??

There were no games played in U18 Div 1 = 100% of games not played , but our game vs SU is protested ???
100% of games were not played so the schedule should be removed for Oct 15/16

Why would you want the game to be cancelled if it could be rescheduled or even played this past weekend? Id want to get in every game possible.

And if you are the coach what was the basis of the protest?

I'd want to play the game regardless, even if it didn't count for standings....just to get another game in.

Yup. We even played a friendly on the bye week. Plus any tournament we can get in. As many games as possible.

SU team has a bye next Sat Oct 22 and could have re-scheduled the game . Oct 15/16 schedule for U18 Div 1 should be removed/erased as per the rule

If there were 3 games and only 2 were postponed then by your own logic that is 66% missed. If you no showed then they have a valid protest.

Why didnt you play the game?

Many games were cancelled /fields closed due to safety reasons as per the weather forecast and for me safety comes first.

Dist 5 rule does not state postponed games but games not played :
If 75% or more scheduled League games are not played, that weekend will be removed from the schedule and no points will be awarded for any games played.

Yes. That's fine. But you cant just decide not to play. And way more than 25% of the LEAGUE games were played. Just look at the standings. Had you played as scheduled there would have been 33% played in your division.

It looks like your decision to abandon based on safety may cost you the points. And safety is number 1 really. For our game it was wet and a little windy, but mild compared to thurs/fri. Hopefully your club can avoid the fine as well.

It's funny that SUS is being grumpy about it though, as their teams have asked for games to be postponed as well.

Fine, but was the game cancelled? If you no show without being advised by the host team, league, or city that the fields are closed then you forfeit. And even if their field was closed you are obliged to see if your club can host the game before cancelling it.

That last weekend and the days leading up to it were forecast for very dangerous weather conditions and there were lots of accidents and damage . A game of Football [soccer] is not more important than the safety of the players ,their families and others involved in the game. Our safety fears were further heightened with the death of a 15 yr old boy near a Surrey school who was killed by a falling tree !

If its the same game I am thinking about .... SU showed up to that game which is probably why its being protested. The refs were all there as well , who get paid , as such it should be a forfeit. . Ref came, gave the required time and ruled a forfeit. Game was on Turf, other games were played. Only games that should have been cancelled were ones scheduled for grass.
Bottom line is game was not cancelled and you didn't showed up,as a stand alone that is clearly a forfeit regardless of reasoning,. Now whether this 75% rule is per group or division or age or district needs to be clarified.

Yeah, if @4_the_kids has the right game, then he's correct. If a team is a no-show, then it's a forfeit. Both teams would've needed to reach out to each other and agree to reschedule. At least that's the way it's worked for our teams in the early going. Everyone has been agreeable that way.

@LFC - absolutely not discounting the need for safety...but process has to be followed.

I don't disagree with you, nor does anyone else.

But a coach can't make that decision arbitrarily. That decision has to be mutually agreed between the coaches, or simply cancelled by the city, league, district etc. You still have to show-up otherwise. When I reffed many moons ago I cancelled a game when a team had arrived from Tswassen (1.5 hour drive). The field conditions were not safe. If you show-up and the conditions are not safe you advocate with the ref and opposing coach that the game is cancelled.

This is my understanding of the rule as well.

Due to the forecast for gale force winds , contact was made beforehand to SU team suggesting to play this game on Oct 22 as SU have a bye on that date. I don,t have any problem or complaint vs the U18 SU team coaching staff .

Now whether this 75% rule of games not played is per age group or division needs to be clarified.

5 district has always been reluctant to give a forfeit. I have had a case where all of the criteria for a forfeit under the rules have been met and had been told by a 5 District official that the forfeit met all the criteria only to be told the week before the last make up date that the league expected the game to be played.

But if they didn't agree with that request you have to show-up. The ref can always make a game-time decision.

Game Forfeits
If a team shows up for a game and decides not to play, what score win does the other team get.
If a team starts with 7 players, and a player gets injured and they go down to 6 players, and the score at the time 0-0,
what score win does the other team get, or will the game be decided as a 0-0 draw.

I've seen this vary. Forfeits are traditionally 3-0 wins, but I've seen them recorded as 1-0 wins. If a team cannot finish a match due to insufficient players as a result of injury or expulsion from the game that's a forfeit.
