Hello- I realize that everyone has been possibly been away for part of the summer, but would anyone have idea on when we will see the Metro Select League schedule?

Thanks-- Russ

At a glance it looks like MSL has reduced teams. Great choice.
Looks to me like every boys age group has at least 14 teams. I don't see that as a reduction?
Glad to see they've created a u17 age group this year.

8 each in u17 and u18 - pretty good (I think MSL should be 10-12). No u17 girls. u15 and 16 girls are at 12 (perfect) - is that less, same, or more than last year?

As I said "at a glance" ... but for example u13 has no LUYSA squad. It's my understanding FVYSA determined they will only approve 1 MSL club in the district (I think that's the right choice for a few reasons). LUYSA still has some squads and if they were in MSL last year letting them keep those spots is also the right choice.

Adding u17 makes sense to me as well. Mixing age groups can lead to kids competing against each other that are almost 2 years apart in age, which can sometimes lead to coaches picking "Strong" players and not necessarily the "right" players.

U17 has 14 teams, 4 of which are from Surrey clubs. Only u18 has 8. I don't pay add much to the girls side so don't know if that's different or not.

I should stop doing things at a glance....multi-tasking doesn't always work well at the end of a long work day!

Yeah sorry, not trying to ride you. It just seems to me that there are way more teams rather than less (with the exception of U18, which has been scaled down as a result of adding a U17 group).
I've also heard that MSL has introduced relegation this year so those teams that can't compete will be moved down at some point (but don't know what that point is!).

Doesn't MSL tier within MSL , by Novemeber there is usually a div 1 and and div 2 within each age group, perhaps I am wrong?

No, I don't think you're wrong. They do that in some age groups. But I asked the person that originally told me about relegation. It would be for the following season. Bottom teams will have to play for the right to stay in MSL the next season. They won't simply be grandfathered in, as they have been in the past.
In my old club, last season there was a team that won the first game and lost every single game after that. By a lot, not close games. Yet they're back in MSL this season. And I'm sure others were denied entry as they only want so many teams in the league.

Teams are rebuilt over the off season. I think a team shouldn't really be based on the prior year but up to a point in the current season. If they are not doing well after 4 games drop them to div 1 and give a div 1 team a chance to move up. The problem is the mls fees are much higher so it may be a problem.

Clubs are trusted in their evaluation of the teams level of play, some clubs do a poorer job then others.... I am not sure there is a perfect system , there will always bottom feeders and top teams. One solution as discussed in other forums would require changing the current system to two defined streams with multiple tiers. Competitive stream with 3-4 tiers and teams move up and down freely as needed, and a recreational stream with 1-4 or m ore streams with the same movement. Say after Remembrance day or something before cup play ...

There are four u17 boys metro teams in Surrey, and lots of player movement going on, player poaching is going on with parents and players approaching players from other teams. Can a player who was selected back in march be dropped now just 10 days before the metro season starts? If a coach is planning to drop a player, who can it be reported too? What's the maximum roster size for a u17 or 18 metro team?

If the player paid the fees and registered he/she should have a spot. Its more of a moral dolemma though.

The club would be authorizing any roster changes. If the club exec allows and supports the dropping of players, there's not much to be done.
I'm not sure if roster max is 18 or 20, but I wouldn't be signing my son up to play on a team with a roster of 20, that's for sure.
My son is U17 and I was really surprised to see 4 teams from Surrey in Metro. Seems unprecedented. And that's without SGU, whose Metro team is playing in U18. Crazy times, glad I don't live in Surrey.

Traditionally surrey has had more than one MSL team and they have done well against other clubs so I dont get your point.

My point was, that 4 is a lot and I haven't seen that before. Why is one called Vancouver United?
The Surrey teams are always very good, and I'm sure they will be again.

From what I understand the MSL committee originally rejected the newly formed clubs Metro teams as they had capped the league at around 12 teams max. Those clubs appealled to BC Soccer and were granted permission for Metro teams. There are now up to 15 teams in some Metro divisions.
