The one thing i have observed is that those parents or groups that make noise or are unhappy in the big clubs like SUSC or CFC are usually unhappy because they feel they should be playing on a higher team and think the selections were flawed and placement given on factors other than merrit...
I think the only club that will be challenged under the merger is North Delta, most from Surrey wont drive to South Delta and Coastal was already a threat to Delta and the Newton clubs.
One might argue Delta District is being dragged into the mess of Newton as well....
The merger doesn't change...
I agree - anything is appreciated. That wasn't really my point, I was more referring to the hand shake deals that go on in an attempt to lure teams and how those deals potentially effect revenue , and if revenue is affected its the development programs that get cut back first....
Clubs are trusted in their evaluation of the teams level of play, some clubs do a poorer job then others.... I am not sure there is a perfect system , there will always bottom feeders and top teams. One solution as discussed in other forums would require changing the current system to two...
Except those 5 clubs are drawing mainly out of one community being Newton. There is still Surrey United, Guildford and Coastal that draw from that 450,000 as well. Essentially we have 2 large clubs( 2000+ members) in Surrey United and Coastal, the rest are smaller i believe and in fact I think...
So I guess the challenge is how can we help NFP's be more competitive in coach retention. So staff coaches can make a living at it?
Agreed truly 'elite' players will be 'elite' regardless of where they play...
The more and more I think about I see the private industry turning sport into a business and its a problem at all levels and all sports. Sports should be accessible for all regardless of social economics or geography. I live in Surrey work in Abbotsford , driving 2-3 days a week to TSS...
I think we all agree fitness or some sort of fitness like activity should be part of training.
I say this:
U6-U9 - Maybe ladder work or rings during a warn up at the most. Any other fitness should come from soccer based activities with a ball and by increasing pace. introduce certain...
Learning proper technique is paramount to having success with any fitness related activity. If the technique is wrong its all a waste of time. Teach kids how to run properly first , then work om improving the strength... much like we teach how to pass properly then work on improving the...
@cassis61 - very interesting point. For sure ones level of play , motivation and dedication will play into how much if any fitness is done.
i think this point "Fitness can also be a personal choice that is suggested (if not required) by either the program one is in or the program one is going...
@TKBC - I don't believe warm ups equal fitness , I do believe there can be a fitness element added to a quality warm up ( see FIFA 11) such as planks, lunges, squats. jumps. , sprints.
Fitness to me is a combination of activities and is an additional session on what would normally be an off...
This is from the Coastal FC website, they consider Div 1-3 as rep. I think this sums up the consensus in this forum
Commitment
To play at any Rep level will involve a greater commitment of time, travel and additional costs by the player, with the greatest commitments being required at the...
For up to U12 , outside of some ladder work, light jogs and sprints during warm up I agree use a ball. As you enter U13 -U16 for boys anyways this is when they start and go through puberty. Proper warm ups and cool downs are essential in preventing injury, so is some strength development.
I...
This topic came up in another thread regarding commitment , thought I would start a separate thread its a good topic for discussion
came across this article, worth the read The Whitehouse Address: Developing Fitness in Young Players | To Ball, or Not to Ball
I was challenging the idea - Having spent 3 years with 9-11 year olds I can tell you if they haven't learned good habits/tekkers by that age it's going to be exceptionally difficult for that player to achieve the good habits/tekkers after that age . I missed the fact you followed it with unless...
Thanks to all that have replied. Many great takeaways. I like the combination of attendance and effort as the determiner for at least starting . Just attending training isn't enough, you must be putting in the effort as well. And of course communicating in advance, talk to me we will work out a...
If I could, i would challenge this statement with this. I have a U 13 Div.1 team - a team created from evaluations, picked by club TD and staff, I had input in the evaluation of players I knew but not the team selection, in fact I was asked to coach the team after the selections were made. On...
