Looks like many districts are closing up shop already. Maple Ridge - all grass and turf closed. Surrey and Delta, all grass closed. If it rains as hard as the pessimists say, some turf will have standing water, and games may not go.
Anyone know a good "F**k off you s*****y rain" dance?
I don't think playing time can be exactly equal every game. Circumstances don't allow for it (injuries, illness, fatigue). Outside of those factors, which are beyond a coach's control, sometimes a player is just not having a good game, or it's a very physical game, and the player is being...
Kids are so different. Mine quit because team sports just aren't his thing. He does swimming and rock climbing. Kicks the ball around with his buddies at school, but isn't interested in being on team.
As long as they're having fun. Girls especially quit for 3 reasons - friends don't play...
You missed one point which would be the clincher for me: Is my kid enjoying it and having fun? If he is enjoying the loud coach, and learning technique, then B. If my kid would not enjoy that, then A). That's going back to when my son was U6/U7. He hasn't played since then...he'd be...
Anyone on my team that moans like that gets paired in training with the player they are moaning about. Then they (usually) end up helping the kid. Usually after a little aside of "so, tell me how YOU turned out to be perfect....". :D
We've started a "big buddy" program at our club. We get...
Each situation likely has to be handled differently. There could be a kid move into the area over the summer, who missed evals. Put the kid on a house roster. Have technical staff evaluate, both with house team and with rep / development teams. Figure out what is best for the player, and...
In my opinion:
If your roster is full -
Keep player 1.
Have player 2 train with you (or an appropriate higher level team), but play games at house. Call that player up for a handful of games. Get to know the player for next year.
If you have a spot on your roster - keep them both. Illness...
U6-U10 - equal playing time, absolutely...even up to U11/12. There is no reason at those ages to keep a player on the bench.
As the kids get older, other things creep in that may alter that - attendance at practice, parent requests, disciplinary reasons...
Even at U16, all my players get...
This makes sense, however, in that scenario, the clubs would still have to accurately submit their teams. Could submit 4 G2 teams and no G1. No perfect scenario, but there needs to be one that makes more sense. It's always strange to me that some teams are shuffled up or down when others...
So true. Many moons ago, in U13 Silver we started the season 1W, 1D, 2L. Our win was against W Van, 11-0. End of the season, WVan was in first place, we were second, and WVan handily dealt with us in our 2nd meeting.
A four game run in to Thanksgiving doesn't give the breadth of results...
We brought sunny South Delta with us to Port Moody...played in the sunshine...unfortunately it took us half the game to wake up. Lost 3-1, but had the better of the play in the 2nd half. Didn't finish our chances, they finished theirs. Meh. Week 2.
Always looking for new material...
Does anyone have favorite resources that you keep going back to? Either for drills / new SSGs, etc, or just to read about coaching?
Websites (other than this one ;))
How about non-coaching soccer books? Any readers in this crowd? :D
Just finished...
The defending of set pieces was possibly the most baffling tactically. Anyway.
I do believe that the Canadian team needs an identity - right now no one knows what type of team we have. I don't know if the next gaffer needs to be Canadian, but they DO need to understand CONCACAF.
As you said, I believe he did some good things, introduced some new blood..got Arfield and Hoilett to commit to Canada.
However, the tactical set up some games (Mexico at home, El Salvador away) were baffling, and I don't know where to begin with some of the personnel decisions - especially the...
Just got this:
"The U11 & U12 Division schedule are is posted is ready to start this weekend.
Some teams may have played this game last weekend, that should have not been posted, but it was nice weather for a game."
Futsal is great. The difference in the ball promotes quicker foot skills and decision making. We use a futsal ball every now and then, even with U16's. Our club provides futsal balls to all the micro kids who train inside.
If it can be incorporated into training...do it!
