Sounds like you have it even worse than we do! I take it that your game today got called off / abandoned, or did they play through the snowfall? Snowing like crazy right now in Vancouver.
Aaarg! After getting past its initial teething troubles, the BCCSL found its footing, and seemed to operate pretty decently for the 18/19 season - well, until now.
This season’s playoff scheme is a little different, with six teams playing off in a round robin format to determine the top two...
That's exactly what I'll need in the very near future. My son's U18, in the end-of-season playoffs now, and has Coastal Cup coming up.. and that's it for youth soccer. Fastest damned twelve years I've ever seen...
Interesting thread. My son plays field lacrosse for a Vancouver high school. Nobody watches, except a few parents / girlfriends. School website promotes basketball and football like crazy, but soccer and Lax get virtually zero coverage: no scores, etc. If even those inside the circle don’t...
You cover a LOT of ground here... so I'll touch on just a couple of your points:
"The fact that the Provincial program places merit only in BCSPL has eliminated kids that only tried out for one team, a team that is vastly more popular than some of the other clubs, from ever being selected..."...
Oh man...some egregious fouls (yellow worthy) yesterday from BOTH sides.... not a single card produced over the 90mins. Predictably, this resulted in the teams coming together in a pushing, grabbing, shoving scuffle late in second half. No cards produced in that altercation either...
Thx for your reply. Interesting to share views/opinions — just to get a “reality check” of sorts from different clubs/districts. Haven’t been following metro much at all this year... who has moved into metro that you know of? Last season, over in the west pool there were easily three Div 1 teams...
It was North Delta. Might have involved some coordination with the Girls' side, since the Delta U18 Boys matches are on Sundays -- but since Sunday matches are by far and away the outlier, all the more reason to have come up with a time with enough notice. It may be just a case of me just being...
Do you mean by the BCCSL, or by the parents/players that have many other things to arrange and organize on the weekend? I'm not disputing that field allocation is a complex and time-consuming undertaking -- but the majority of clubs are able to provide a reliable schedule with at least one...
So, how’s the season going so far, folks?
Pleased to see that our club, Richmond, appears to be competitive again after a couple seasons mired in the basement. Hard to say with certainty so early in the season, but the East pool seems to be somewhat weaker than the West.
Only complaint thus...
Will be interesting to see how Herdman does with the men's side. He got the women to buy in and play their hearts out -- let's see if there's a similar effect again now.
Hmmm... looks like the first appreciable rainfall in the past two months is predicted for Saturday -- it must be the start of the youth soccer season! ;)
GS had our opponent listed correctly, but time and venue were wrong. Parents realized that our venue HAD to be wrong, but somehow a few of them were convinced we were playing at 8:00 instead of the 11:00 they'd already been informed of by our club admin. Lots of unnecessary emails, phone calls...
Double-checking....you wrote in bold black "20 meters or 16.8 yards." Did you not mean "15 meters or 16.4 yards" ? Still waking up, so maybe I've misread it.
I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning, so maybe I'm missing something, but i believe the OP mentioned that the distances referenced were "from the centre line", not the end line. So, on a 100-yard field, the retreat line is 16.4 yards from centre (34 yards out from goal).
LOL! Been there already. Richmond to Chilliwack for 9:00 a.m. start. Drove out Fri evening, and over-nighted. The hotel hot tub was worth it - not to mention getting to avoid a 6:45 a.m. departure.
