    BC Coastal Soccer League

This is exactly how 5 District has been doing it. Select divisions. Some teams would get re-tiered after 5 games or so, but generally divisions remained the same. Then they created groups of 6 based on season standings to create the League Championship Series. So every team was playing a league...

    BC Coastal Soccer League

Have to get rid of this G1-G2 nonsense. Call them div 1-2-3-4 etc. Either you are top tier (gold) or you aren't. Let's not mislead our players and parents.

And this can also happen moving a top gold team to metro. Again tiers can't be based purely on results.

Don't feel bad guys, it's not just BCCSL that tiers teams poorly. My own clubs u11 tier 2 team has been bumped up to tier 1. They've won 2 tier 2 games.....makes literally zero sense. They have to play a tier 1 team this weekend and hope everything gets shuffled after Christmas holidays...

I imagine they are as bored and frustrated as their opponents.

Undefeated teams are pretty much guaranteed to have a GD of over 30 as over a 15 game season that averages only a 2-0 win ;) Re-tiering after 2-3 games is....ill-advised to put it mildly.

    BC Coastal Soccer League

You don't mind undefeated teams but you don't like unbeaten teams? ;) I think people need to accept when a Gold team wins all or almost every game by a healthy score in a season. The issue is if they are sandbagging and staying at that level when there becomes an opportunity for them to move to...

    BC Coastal Soccer League

Regardless size of club - they should have a pretty good idea. Remember this only affects teams that win easily or lose by biggish scores regularly - which is a small number of teams. I can see u13 being quite difficult, but after that it should be fairly predictable. Re-shuffle after 6-8 games...

    BC Coastal Soccer League

Definitely agree re-tiering after 2-3 games is ridiculous - always has been. If re-tiering after 2-3 games is required my question goes back to the TD's who designated the tiers their teams would play in. This is always hard to predict for u13 and u18, but after the u13 season clubs know what...

Further underlining the issues with a score-based pro/rel system. We all have stories of teams that were bottom of a division that were actually very strong, and teams top of a division in a lower tier that were sandbagging, or the club/league refused to move them up, but at same time a team...

    BC Coastal Soccer League

Confirmed no MSL next season. It's folding into BCCSL, will be called Division 1 (or Gold or whatever name they choose). All the current divisions will be renamed - Div 1 now Div 2, Div 2 now 3 so on and so forth. The current MSL programs will continue to run as they are. There will be a...

    Best Academy?

No experience with the Island academy. I would expect the coaches are a higher standard than your normal staff coaches at the local clubs. They'd be, I'd require, an equal level to any TD, or private academy coach - if not higher. You are right to be cynical about the tournaments. Have...

Category 1 and 2 - change to youth landscape

I saw a mention of 2019.....have seen various BCSPL appointments for 2018, so my guess is the remark of 2019 makes sense.

Category 1 and 2 - change to youth landscape

Equally silly question - why only make changes u12 and up? Genuinely though, this ridiculous amount of focus we put on kids u13 and up was very misguided (coming from a guy who was very excited about BCSPL). I assume they'll begin the changes from the first year soccer is offered.

Category 1 and 2 - change to youth landscape

Letting academies in is a great step, but the next has to be to eliminate district boundary rule re: registrations. Good luck to the city officials that allocate field time to many more user groups ;) Same number of practices (registrations not likely to increase) but more people to...

Category 1 and 2 - change to youth landscape

Hey all, Am hearing about a change to the youth landscape. But, I wonder what others have heard? My understanding is all clubs and academies will be placed into Category 1 and Category 2 (don't know if there will be Cat 3, 4 etc). This includes BCSPL, academies, rec clubs etc. I don't know if...

    Four District Youth Soccer 2017/18

The problem with determining league placement based on wins-losses is coaches begin (or more so) coaching merely to win and not develop. So that model doesn't work, and it's how we got to where we are now. We've gone from one extreme to another. Neither is acceptable. My "middle ground" for...

    Four District Youth Soccer 2017/18

Absolutely has to be addressed. Every year a team will be in a division where they are out of their depth - at every level amateur to pro this happens - but that we are so stuck and locked into set divisions is a problem. Then on top of that player movement within clubs is highly...

    Four District Youth Soccer 2017/18

The counter to that is - who is to say the team that replaces them will do any better or be anymore competitive? Possibly can be decided by placement-game scenarios, cup competition?
