Here are the reasons why Whitecaps opinion should be, and IMO is, meaningless in this regard.
1. NY and LA both have TWO teams in the Whitecaps league. CPL is a different league.
2. LA and NY also have teams in lower tiers competing "directly" with the 4 MLS teams.
3. The CPL will have pro-rel...
Swangard is a great location for a team. Central. Skytrain. Beautiful. Can expand to hold 10k or more (reference the u20 world cup). There is a significant parking issue though. Not sure what the rent is on the facility.
For me it has to be North Surrey or Swangard.
I agree going with a name with the city it's located in it. What was the issue with using the name Royal City - sounds like a historical issue as it referenced colonialism. Come on folks, give me some local history education!
Halifax now also announced today. Confirms Hamilton, Winnipeg, Calgary, Halifax. Also, so far the crests are amazing (thank goodness!!). Can't wait for the BC announcement (though that name Port City....what a mess that is!! but oh well).
I have a pretty frank talk with all the parents a few times pre-season in writing and verbally. This, I think, may be helping with my teams not having issues. The other thing that helps is I don't berate my players or the ref at all (of course something slips out here or there, as is unavoidable...
I saw a soccer dad one like that the other day. Thought it was funny (though it's also sad, but true!!). I am so fortunate with my teams lately the last few years. They've all been so so wonderful. No issues whatsoever. This is with 3-4 different teams too. Long may it continue!
I was engaging...
Port City is a terrible, terrible name. Has anyone, anywhere ever equated Surrey to being a "Port City"? I don't see any scenario in which the team is placed in Langley. If they do put them in Langley it'll be a failure. They have to be in North Surrey, or maybe Swangard. Walking distance from a...
Yes Whitecaps are, but they scout nationwide, their "reserve" team is in California and has 6-7 Canadians only, and how many Canadians play in their first team regularly? 2...? Maybe 3 now with Levis the last few weeks?
CPL teams will probably have 6-7 in the First XI plus reserves....guesstimate.
I don't put "weaker" players on defence - I put them where it appears they will have the most positive impact based on their needs. That might be forward or wherever. Other team might just put the weaker kids on defence, I don't know.
Reading your story is likely all too common. Likely why the...
It's a combo of everything you said. My own team this spring stick to playing goalie in a 5v5 - they are 8-9yrs old. I asked them why they do that. They are scared to lose - so they end up losing because the game becomes 5v4 or 5v3 because 1 or 2 kids park themselves near the goal. Needless to...
1. I hear ya - other countries develop players. But we aren't other countries. We do not have the sporting culture in this sport to do what other countries might do. We have to do what will work for us. We, in no way, can be compared to other countries yet. The Canadian Premier League MIGHT...
To be fair, "weaker" players need more time and space than is afforded in a CM, CB, or ST position. Thus they tend to play in wide positions more often, unless the coach can pair them with a stronger player and play two CB, CM or ST. Every team is a bit different. For example I am not going to...
If only coaches knew what the "right" positioning is to begin with ;) Having coached u11-12 many times, including this past season not 1 of our opponents pushed their outside defenders forward, and rarely did the wide players do an adequate defensive job. Equally rarely did the centre back make...
