It's such a difficult scenario. There are upsides to a locked BCSPL - which I agree with but also see the reasoning for opening it up. There are downsides to both systems. Should a team that finishes bottom be relegated? No, because maybe most of their games are 2-1, 4-2, 3-2....1-0....close...
This is also my belief. A 3 tiered "competitive" stream. Each having standards attached that teams must meet to field a team at their respective level. Have a closed top tier (BCSPL) so as to have better quality control, but some movement of teams in the 2nd and 3rd tier.
Then a rec stream. Yes...
BCSPL wasn't created "to kill" Metro. It was created to provide a way to streamline our resources, so the "top" players and coaches could be centralized. This is the right decision/theory. I say BCSPL should be adjusted, but the current 8 club format does make sense. The alternative is a...
Does every BCSPL team wear Adidas? hmm. Dunno.
Should BCSPL be free? Yes. Can it be? No. Not without sponsorship and fundraising as you noted. I also believe Whitecaps should be supplementing the costs of the league - they directly benefit from the players. Are the Caps currently providing...
Good morning Ian.
Yes, I agree having the line "closer" to centre is better as it reduces poaching. But 8.5 metres would put the retreat line within the centre circle. So 8.5 metres won't be correct. If you divide 50 by 3 you get 16.6. So the 1/3 line would be where BCSA describes it in it's...
Canada and USA will never succeed so long as we stick to "suburb" soccer. There is no desperation to improve. The "top" players have zero risk to their spots on "top" teams. There is no internal drive on a grand scale. Best kid I ever coached was an African refugee. The kid was desperate. Drive...
LOL this weekend for my u11 game I put the markers down as I always do in the same position. The young lady moved them. I asked her why she moved them to the wrong position. She told me the head ref who was there told her to move them. I put them at the 2/3 point of the pitch (the correct...
My guess is they'll rename all the divisions, and still have district-based teams at the top of the tier. I can't see, for example, Fraser Valley Selects disappearing.
They'll figure out a way to simply move the current MSL into the existing BCCSL schedule and identify it as the top tier....
BCSPL doesn't get all the top BCSPL players either. No league in BC ever will. BCSPL gets most of the top players though.
I wonder which cup format is best? The traditional style that D4 follows (cup play blended into league play, one-off games - is that how it is?) which the new BCCSL has adopted, or the D5 format that has adjusted over the years to its current format (now defunct of course). Last year D5 played a...
Rolling MSL into the BCCSL umbrella is a great idea, especially if in the nearish future BCSPL will expand to two tiers. Hopefully the "new gold" will be somewhat limited with its number of teams, and not just whoever self-identifies as gold.
