I think they need a rec division though.

As for this season being far from perfect, what they did with cup play was a DISASTER. Who's idea was a one and done? For example we played our first and only cup game on Nov 11. Add to the fact that on those BYE weekends prior we didn't play at all which seemed like a real waste. Anyway, losing this game basically led to an early end to our season. Yes we still play games. Games that have no meaning really. Player attendance starts to suffer. There isn't much to play for now. Just go through the motions of the games themselves. At least in the past if our regular season wasn't so great we could be invigorated by a new season (CUP) in January with something to play for. Not so this year.

Then We have 10 teams in our division. We have played two teams 3 times each. This should just not happen at all. Especially in a 15 game season.

Is there a BCCSL board meeting? Maybe, and even on or before FEb 28, and then these things will be resolved with a vote?

Agree about the apparent communication level. Nothing on BCCSL, BCGSL, or district websites, which is strange. Communication is the biggest thing the league needs to sort out. Schedule changes have not been communicated, but left to clubs to find themselves, sometimes days before a match. A league administrator has their work cut out for them!

I believe the intent is to return to the 5-District process of re-tiering for Cup play after Christmas. That makes the most sense, and is definitely the way to keep teams playing meaningful matches late into the season. That's how the girls do it as well, and if the girls are merging into the same league as well, it makes the most sense to have everyone playing with the same system.

How can we nominate Rich to the BCCSL board???

Wouldn't Division 3 be "recreational" under the to-be Metro/Div 1/Div2/Div 3 structure?

I'm assuming BCCSL could follow the existing BCCGSL structure - for U13-U18, Div 1 & 2 for each age group are formed via tiering (competitive), Div 3 is formed by geography (recreational). Typically (in our girls club anyways) Div 1 & 2 teams are selected by evaluation/tryouts, while Div 3 teams do not require tryouts.

I think they need a rec division though.

Traditionally we had div 1-4 in District 5 plus Metro. Now we will have 4 divisions in bccsl, which will include metro at the top regardless of nomenclature.

I cant help but think of all the kids at the botyom who love the game, play to the best of their ability, but will get trimmed out because they are not adequate for div 3.

Maybe in the longterm as kids move from u12 into u13 it will become easier to move into this system, but I cant help but feel that we will lose kids in the short term.

I think that 5-6 Division would better suit the player base from top to bottom.

the way 5-district did cups the last few years was superb. indeed a new cup after Christmas against similarly ranked teams was fantastic. for many reasons.

div 3 would definitely be rec - but isn't there a "house" league still? if so, why even have div 3?

This only matters if the house league will still exist or not. If House won't exist, and BCCSPL is running the rec/house leagues then no problem. If house is going to continue to run, why have a "rec" division 3?

If there is a house league then thats perfectly fine (what I meant by rec), but the notice only mentioned it for u11-12.

There are teams at the lowest end of the spectrum getting thrashed. I just wantvthem to have fair fun seasons as well. I have myown kids that played at different levels and I couldnt imagine if my oldest didnt have house to play when he was younger. He was passed around from so many teams until he found a fit. I would not want that for anyone.

Take a look at the structure in some of the age groups. At bronze (or div 3) there are multiple tiers which I would imagine would still happen.

I realize I may sound contradictory. I believe rec and competitive should be separate leagues. But I believe all leagues should be under same umbrella. But, I just don't see why a Div 3 is necessary when it's house, but there is already a house league. The cynic in me has a theory about why they are doing that - but I won't spout conspiracy theory here ;) lol. competitive and rec can be run by the same board of directors - but they shouldn't be listed as though they are linked. Ie, div 1-2-3. Div 3 does not compete in the coastal B Cup, so why have them on the same "ladder"? I have a theory....

Div 3 has never been house. Div 4 was house. And the distinction between has never been a smooth gradient. The new Div 3/Rec should not encompass all players below Div 2. That is just not fair at all to the players. When my daughter was playing they had up to div 5. Why is this not available in boys soccer? That wasn't even including Metro which was its own league.

And Herv, yes I see Bronze 1 Bronze 2, etc Which is basically 6 divisions and its perfect, but there was no mention of this in the notice, and of course was not applicable to our side of the river. Hopefully it is next year.

I know a lot of the people on this board deal with or have select children. I have 5 kids and they fell into different categories so I have a little bit of a soft spot for those at the lower end of the spectrum.

BTW, I hope everyone is having or will have a great FAMILY DAY!

@easoccer, sounds like your daughter has aged out of youth soccer, but was there a Coastal "C" cup at one time? I've seen references to it on our club's older "achievements" pages...

If I've seen anything in the past 7 years my girls have been playing, it's that youth (and all levels I guess) is an ever changing, moving target, districts change, leagues change, and so on...

Anyone have a history of lower mainland youth soccer written down :) ???

Div 3 will be "rec" (outside of the Coastal B Cup). It is, for all intents and purposes a house league. I see no need to have a rec league in a "competitive" stream. Div 3 is rec.

You have a very narrow minded view. Its not fair shoe horn every kid below div 2 into the same mold. In the same way you cant force everyone below bcspl into the same division.

That is unless you dont care about the experiences of the kids who dont fit in at div 3.

There could be 2-3 levels in division 1 alone. Div 3 definately will need several tiers to ensure kids are enjoying the game and playing with similar abilities.

Hopefully Herv. :)

They could call it Div 3 a/b/c for all I care. Call it all rec/house. It doesn't really matter. All that matters is that kids are in divisions that fit their skill levels.

Not sure what you mean - but I've watched plenty of div 3 and house games - and the standard is the same. Div 3 is outside of "B" cup so I don't really see why it would be included in a B Cup league. Do any div 3 teams compete in district cup? I assume not since they don't compete in B Cup. In 15 years of coaching I've never been drawn to play a bronze/div 3 team in district cup.

I care very much about their experience - which is why I am saying put them with other like minded kids.

To say that some div 3 kids want to be competitive is fine - and I am sure it's true. The same for div 2 kids who want to be metro, or metro who want to be BCSPL. Scores are kept in house league the same as they are in any other division u13+ so the competitive aspect of results is present regardless of they play in something called house or div 3.

A solution might be - cancel the house league and just put them all in div 3! Then just create multiple divisions (like any other tier).

Have always thought this was ridiculous. Div 1A, Div 1B.....just call it Div 1, 2, 3, 4 - we're fooling the kids and parents by calling them something they aren't. Unless Div 1A and Div 1B are the same in ability (ie, east/west division) - two balanced divisions in the same tier. That's of course perfectly acceptable.
