WHY SO MANY BYES?? Does it even make sense?

I THINK it's to ensure there are no byes in later rounds?

For instance, if in our U17 group, we have 5 byes. If there were two more games, and only one bye, then the second round would have 6 games, then down to three, with one team having a bye into the final.

I dunno. Just spitballing. I'm to tired to bother trying to figure it out!!!

frustrating that once again it is organized by geography. We potentially may see a few teams up to 3 times this season.

schedule looks like there are many issues. Missing teams, duplicates in some age groups. Considering it is Tuesday night this is going to be messy.

The whole layout is odd. Why not just display it in a similar manner to league play?

they arranged the cup draw by geography? I am against massive trips for league play, but for the odd cup game - kids can drive a little bit more if that's the luck of the draw (same as Coastal Cup for example).

although results are not recorded (they are tracked) for u11-12 in the BCCSL and the Fraser Valley league - do those leagues create cups for those ages - even if there is no trophy at the end?

WCA Davies is in the u17 GOLD 1E and SILVER 1E group? And basically listed as playing a Bronze team that moved up? Can this be right?

And our own team SDU Lighting Listed in u17 GOLD W, playing that same promoted Bronze team this coming weekend. But shows a 1-0 marker.

So can anyone else make any sense of this schedule?

My own u11 schedule has changed as well (appropriate). They changed all the groups after Thanksgiving, and we played a game with that sched, they've now changed all the groups again. LOL. I was away from the game and my boys said they were really fast....lol any bets on if we played a u12 team by mistake? ;) hahaha....guys you gotta laugh, as frustrating as it is.
*my team is not in BCCSL. We're in the Fraser Valley one. Seems we have the same issues ;)

I haven't read through the entire thread (I had intended to take a year of coaching but got called back - a story for another day) so apologies if this has been covered but here are some things I've heard.

SPL2 has been put on hold by the SPL board as the CSA is looking to implement a nationwide player development model for high performance players/teams. No Idea what this will look like but likely regional play with some form of national tournament/showcase event.

Metro is indeed being eliminated and being rolled in to the BCCSL leagues so effectively Gold is the tope tier under SPL. Hopefully the BCCSL gets their act together early on this so we don't have all of the issues from the last minute implementation that we saw this year.

Rolling MSL into the BCCSL umbrella is a great idea, especially if in the nearish future BCSPL will expand to two tiers. Hopefully the "new gold" will be somewhat limited with its number of teams, and not just whoever self-identifies as gold.

welcome back to coaching! we don't know each other, but you've been around and no doubt the kids and parents appreciate it.

Agreed that "merging" MSL and BCCSL is a good idea. I think the idea is to have some form of committee made up of technical directors from various clubs involved in allocating spaces within the gold tier.

Agreed. TD's can also outline standards that are in line (but to a lesser degree) to what BCSPL has as standards.

Looks like they fixed the redundancy in the cup schedule. My only issue now is that they lost a week in Sept by starting late, and now MANY teams are getting another week off. Not too mention many teams already had bye weeks. Let's hope that the weather holds this year. Prime playing weekends and teams are idle. Not too good imho. Especially with the NO MAKE UP GAME policy in this new league.

So cup play starts... next weekend? Played all but 3 games so far.
District has decided that one game is sufficient to place teams for cup play. Our team had the pleasure of playing a team who is far superior to 90 % of the rest of the teams in our division ( should be in DIV 1). Now we have the pleasure of playing them again this weekend. We are in a division of 13 TEAMS and we need to play the same team again? Can I develop and install a little confidence in my team please!
District is absolutely hopeless.
Coaching used to be fun.

It has been pretty frustrating. We saw the schedule with the bye in it for this weekend and informed the team and then the next day the November 11th second round game gets moved to this weekend. Parents are rightly annoyed by the poor execution and communication.
