U16 div 2. 2-1L.

Game was delayed by 1/2 hour due to lights not firing up. So our 45 min early for warmup became 1 hr 15.

The game was even. They were able to capitalize on 2 rebounds. And our RM was yelliw carded 2x for the red.

My son scored a great far post goal from the left of the 18.

My daughters u8 team went crazy with 9 goals this weekend. Allowed 1. My daughter had a couple and assist.

My oldest in u18, well 4th game in a row with 9 players from a roster of 19. Crazy.

How did everyone else do?

Same issues at U18 here - commitment and numbers not there at all, when we go a few goals down they collapse... frustrating as a coach to watch it happen and not have any answers

U14 Gold 1 7-0 win.

Was nice to see some goals after some close scores the last few games.

Scrappy 1-1 draw. Scrappy in terms of neither team could complete a pass - it was one of those "concrete boots" matches. Pass right, player goes left. Dribble into space...then out of bounds. Striker mis-hit his shot on a breakaway in the last minute :(

Regarding the U18s - the new Tsawwassen Mills mall has caused havoc among our U17 and U18 groups, with so many players having jobs there. Couple that with games being either Saturday or Sunday, and it's not surprising that our older teams struggle for numbers at games despite having large rosters.

My son has a job a mc d. Hes 17. I told him his 1st priority is school and soccer. Then work. He has his whole life to work. I mean if you cant come out dont register. There is a waiting list. Let other kids take the spot. 19 players on the roster. 9 showing up. Some havent even come to practice or games and others 1 or 2. The coach is way too easy going. lol.

Didn't know you could have overage players in youth - when did you transfer Hurtado in?

:)

Also. A big issue for the u18, is that initially all the games for our team were listed as saturday games in the schedule. Coach told the kids with jobs. Then Coastal decided to schedule the games on sunday. After the players told their work. This did make a rather big impact on our team.

What is the coach supposed to do? Sign up one more to make it 20? I only have 16, would love to add a couple more if I could

Drop and add from waitlist? Its safe to assume they arent coming if they havent already. Maybe go off on a rant? lol

The days of u18 are coming to an end it seems. No longer in BCSPL. Nova Scotia is scrapping u18. LTPD apparently calls for u17 being the last youth age group. Correct decision. 17 year olds can play u21. Would strengthen that age group province-wide, and allow for a better transition from youth to men, and youth to University/college soccer.

What level of play is it?

Then it's a family decision what comes first. But, I agree - don't sign up if you are going to not show-up.

Its what I told my son. Im not involved other than a parent but I do see the teams we play with several subs each week. Anyway, on a positive, my son is getting full minutes. lol.

mixed bag of results but won the one that mattered most.

Boys played Saturday in Poco. Lost 2-1 in a game that definitely could have gone either way. Costly foul led to the winning goal.
Girls played Sunday in Chilliwack (coaching 2 teams this year) and lost 5-2. Couldn't match the speed chilliwack had up front, and didn't help that we were missing our strongest striker, and centre mid.

Boys had our district cup semi final on Sunday (busy day for me!) and won 2-1 in extra time. Started off with the lights going out, and almost got cancelled as it took some time to contact the right people. Thankfully we got it in. Controlled the play for most of the game, had several chances (including twice when balls were cleared just off the line, on what looked like sure goals!) and the opposition didn't hold much possession as they bypassed the midfield to try and send there strikers through. Center backs shut them down and our goalie made a last minute PK save to allow us to go to overtime. We get a chance to play the other Langley Division 1 team which has been our goal for the past two years! (Last year div 2 teams were not allowed into district cup play).

Fraser Valley district cup is now played before Christmas!? Strange! Have never had a problem getting the games in after Christmas in previous years - the only issue ever experienced was when they tried to make us play district cup and league cup final on the same day. Also, you are in the FV District, and Div 2 teams weren't allowed to play in District Cup? Last year Langley u18 boys div 2 played in district cup.

I think looking to merge U17 and U18 into one group may be the way to go. The issue with games on different days is the huge problem. CCB takes it one further and doesn't even post a day to play - apparently they don't get their field allocations until Thursday night. So don't even know the day of the game until 2 days prior.

That just doesn't work for working kids....and many don't have the soccer before job option, unfortunately.

Delta District playdowns start Jan 7. Div 2 teams have the option to take part (we're in!) We want to play our Div 1 side and knock them out - the bragging at school would be insufferable...:D

Draw was set November 12th, Quarter finals had to be played by November 18th, Semi Finals weekend of the 19th/20th, Finals week of 26th/27th very busy few weeks!

I am guessing the Div 2 group played district cup if there were not enough div 1 teams to have a final. In our age group there were 3 div 1 teams in our district so the Div 2 teams were not allowed to participate.

Why did they move the district cup to before Christmas though? There has always been plenty of time to do both league and district cup in January-February-March. Coastals start in April if I am not mistaken?

3 Div 1 teams does not allow for a semi-final proper to be played - so why would they deny div 2 teams?

That said, this further proves my point that Div 2 is "rec" in comparison to Div 1 as they are viewed as not competitive enough (at least in Fraser Valley). I believe there should be a competitive stream of BCSPL-MSL-Div 1, and then a rec stream of Div 2. BCSA could amend their A and B designations to allow for some flexibility with respect to who is in Premier, A and B Cup in this set-up (allowing Div 2 teams to apply entry into B cup if they want - over the years have seen plenty of Div 2 teams enter coastal cup either by upsetting the Div 1 team, or because their district didn't have a div 1 team - not sure the last time I saw that happen in FV District, but have seen it plenty in other districts).
