I've heard that the scheduling problems are with the TAGS program itself. Which sounds like a bigger problem. The robots are taking over..beware!

That may be a (small) part of the problem but teams being added/or removed after the deadline is usually as a result of a club not being organized and not submitting their information on time.

IMO if you miss the deadline you don't play the first week. The schedule should be able to be adjusted for subsequent weeks. The last minutes changes are not only a problem for players and coaches but are a nightmare for field and referee schedulers.

when does the 5 district come out
If you have a select or development team, you should have had your schedule September 1. If you coach a House team, it will come out roughly 2 days before your first game - but they will not tell you what weekend that game will be - so don't hold your breath.

Rumor. I heard George is not doing the schedules this year due to health reasons. This could be a cause to the current issues.

George is having health issues, which is delaying the schedule. That is true - however, clubs are causing issues as well. The usual chaos.

If a team is struggling in a high division, can they ask the league to move them down to a lower division? If so, will there be any fees involved in it?

Tiering is usually done around thanksgiving. If you are getting beaten by 5+ goal differential it would be automatic. You can ask your club to move you down if you feel mismatched as well. I dont think there are any fees. Your team should play within a similar level.

In u17 not so long ago after 5 games my team was 0-0-5. Our GD was somewhere around -20. I sent the TD a note saying "please don't let us get relegated" and explained some extenuating circumstances. TD had seen the team perform and agreed with my assessment. The team ended the season unbeaten for 3 months, more wins than losses overall, a positive GD, made the coastal QF (defeating a top 4 team/arch rival in the district final - won by a big score). The next season they won u18 undefeated (different coach), won coastal cup. Never assume a team should be relegated on their score/results. Judge them solely on if they are competitive/potential.

Being relegated is NOT automatic nor should it be. One of the very correct things BCSA/district 5 have in place.

If your team is struggling, and you don't believe they are competitive then yes, be honest with yourself, the players/parents, and club and request you get moved down a level. No clue if there is a fee involved (I doubt it).

It is automatic for the most part. Again you can ask to be dropped or even request not to be. Its not done by a formula but at a district meeting.

Anyway, I have heard TkBC's story many times on this forum and I would suggest his experience is an exception to the rule.

I believe in tiering. Maybe not 1x in a season, but more often like they do in District 4. This would help achieve a more accurate result.

A few years ago the formula was bottom 2 move down, top 2 move up. Some where along the way politics became involved. Too many Surrey teams in higher levels so promotion was limited.

At the district meeting the clubs all put forward their list of teams who they want promoted. This is debated at the meeting. Some are permitted to move up, some are not. In order to move up most of the time there needs to be a candidate to move down. Of course that club can plead their case to stay put.

My point by saying automatic is that if you are -15 after 3 games their is a good chance you would move down. Especially if a team is wanting to move up.

Your best bet is to talk to your club about it. You could have a team moved at any time prior to cup if there is justification for it. I once had a u17 team playing in the wrong div and had my team dropped within a game.

Is it an exception? Not for me anyway. With another team finished 2nd bottom, won the same league the next season. Another team in that same group finished bottom half of the league table, but by the time they won provincials that season they were smashing it. Don't judge youth teams on results solely.

Even if it is an exception, the point stands. Do not judge youth teams on results. I believe in tiering too - just not based solely on results. I believe if a team is having no on-field positive results they should be approached about their level of play - but what then of the BCSPL teams that are getting killed? I think 1 team failed to score a goal? It's a slippery slope and not one we should be on.

I've never experienced this in any of my 10 years where 2 down, 2 up "automatically." NEVER. Even in my last season the top two silver teams lost a combined 1 game - how come they weren't moved up? Probably because when it came to the came to the league cup round robin they finished 5th-6th in the group. Neither team was from Surrey.

I would suggest if you are -15 after 3-5 games and haven't won any, I suggest that ya the league should talk to your TD and the TD to the coach to determine if they should go down. Not be determined by some guys and girls in a room who have never seen them play and don't know any of the players or their coach.

Like you mentioned - you asked your team to be dropped after 1 game - that was apparently the correct choice for your team. Every team needs a different approach.

It is not common for your results.

Again. If you are -15 after 3 games the results need to be looked at. -20 after 4. These teams are good candidates for relegation. There are too many losing teams each year in the wrong divisions.

You are also not saying if your team made any changes. A lot of the time teams do well in alternating years. 2-3 player can make a huge difference.

My opininion is that if your team is at .500 win/loss give or take a game or 2, then you are in the right place. 11-1 or 1-11, you are not.

Too much focus on lables.

And by automatic I meant the coach usually doesnt put too much input into it. The league does. Even you said you had to plead to stay put.
